before it looks.

I
like beginnings
because they’re so full of promise.
The first page of a book,
the first day of a job,
the first time you buy yourself flowers,
the first date with a new man,
the first touch,
the first kiss,
the first kick of a good liquor,
the first moment you hold your own baby.
I like beginnings
because I know there’s always more to come.
because they’re so full of promise.

the first time you buy yourself flowers,
the first date with a new man,
the first touch,
the first kiss,
the first kick of a good liquor,

I like beginnings

Falling
You expect to be sad in the fall.
Part of you dies each year when the
leaves fall from the trees
and their branches are beare against the wind
and the cold,
wintery light.
But you know there will always be the
spring
as you know the river will flow again after it is frozen.

We shake with joy,
we shake with grief.
What a time they have, these two
housed as they are in the same
body.

I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR
I’ll be your mirror
Reflect what you are
In case you don’t know
I’ll be the sun
The wind and the rain
The light on your door
To show that you’re home.
When you think the nights as in your mind
Bent inside, you’re twisted and unkind
Let me stand to show that you are blind
Please put down your hands, cause I see you.
I find it hard
To believe you don’t know
The beauty you are
But if you don’t
Let me be your eyes
A hand to your darkness
So you won’t be afraid.
When you think the nights as in your mind
Bent inside, you’re twisted and unkind
Let me stand to show that you are blind
Please put down your hands, cause I see you.

TIJD
