PERMANENT CHANGE
Your impact on other people is bigger than you think.
Someone still giggles when they think of that funny thing you said.
Someone still smiles when they think of the compliment you gave them.
Someone silently admires you.
The advice you give has made a difference for people.
The support and love you’ve offered others has made someone’s day.
Your input and opinions have made someone think twice.
You’re not insignificant and forgotten.
Your existence makes a positive difference, whether you see it or not.
What you can’t control:
• What other people think
• What other people feel
• What other people say
• What other people do
What you can control:
• How you interpret what other people think/feel/say/do (with hostility, compassion, curiosity, understanding, judgment…)
• How you respond what other people think/feel/say/do
• What you communicate to other people (all you can ever give people is information)
What you can’t control:
• How people respond to the above
What you can control:
• How you respond to the above
Etc.

Try to imagine a life without timekeeping.
You probably can’t.
You know the month, the year, the day of the week.
There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car.
You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie.
Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored.
Birds are not late.
A dog does not check its watch.
Deer do not fret over passing birthdays.
Man, alone measures time.
Man alone chimes the hour.
And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.
- Mitch Albom - The Time Keeper -
‘When a baby comes into the world, its hands are clenched, right? Like this?’
He made a fist.
‘Why? Because a baby, not knowing any better, wants to grab everything, to say, ‘The whole world is mine.’
‘But when an old person dies, how does he do so? With his hands open. Why? Because he has learned his lesson.’
What lesson? I asked.
He stretched open his empty fingers.
‘We can take nothing with us.'
- Mitch Albom - Have a Little Faith -
