Eens berustten ze op een feit,

Though it may be hurtful or frustrating,

oftentimes, it's not the situation itself

 that evokes such strong emotions;

it's something from our past resurfacing.

Understanding our triggers

is the key to calming our angst.

You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read.

It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, or who had ever been alive.

zonder doel, zonder hoop, zonder verwachting.

Relationships do not cause pain and unhappiness.
They bring out the pain and unhappiness
 that is already in you.

- Eckhart Tolle -

Nobody else is responsible for your feelings. This realisation can end the blame game once and for all, and leave you standing in your true place of power – the present moment.
The energies alive in your body right now were not ’caused’ by anyone else, and nobody else can take them away.

Yes, others may trigger latent pain and sorrow and disappointment in you, they may contribute to the field in which your old, unresolved pain can resurface, but they cannot make you feel how you feel.
Nobody can make you happy, nobody can make you unhappy. You are only invited, constantly, to meet what remains unmet in yourself, to touch what you never wanted to touch, to explore the field.
Making others responsible for how we feel is the beginning of all violence, both internal and external, all conflict between people, and ultimately all wars between nations.

Let others off the hook. Honour what is alive in you right now. Learn to hold your own feelings like beloved children, however intensely they burn and scream for attention.

Celebrate the aliveness in your hurt, the vibrancy of your disappointment, the electricity of your sadness. Kneel before the power in your anger, honour its burning creativity.

From this place of deep acceptance, you do not become weak and passive. Quite the opposite. You simply enter the world from a place of non-violence, and therefore immense creative power, and you are open to the possibility of deep listening, honest dialogue, and unexpected change.
In suffering you become small. In love, anything is possible.

- Jeff Foster -

Don’t ever kid yourself about loving someone.

It is just that most people are not lucky enough ever to have it.

What you have...whether it lasts just through today and a part of tomorrow, or whether it lasts for a long life is the most important thing that can happen to a human being.

There will always be people who say it does not exist because they cannot have it.

But I tell you it is true and that you have it and that you are lucky even if you die tomorrow.

You did the best you could with the knowledge you had in that moment.

It’s easier to look back at an event and see a better choice or pathway because we already learned from our experience.

You own your story, but you don’t owe anyone your story.

You have the right to share it when you want, how you want, with whomever you want, and if you never want to share it, that’s okay too.

Your experiences are important, meaningful, and valid whether you publicize them or not.

Words, I think, are such unpredictable creatures.

No gun, no sword, no army or king will ever be more powerful than a sentence.

Swords may cut and kill, but words will stab and stay, burying themselves in our bones to become corpses we carry into the future, all the time digging and failing to rip their skeletons from our flesh.

Vertel iets over jezelf.

‘Mens is demon, mens is god. Allebei waar’.

Very young children are not afraid to express what they feel. They are so loving that if they perceive love, they melt into love. They are not afraid to love at all. That is the description of a normal human being. As children we are not afraid of the future or ashamed of the past. Our normal human tendency is to enjoy life, to play, to explore, to be happy, and to love.

Sometimes I feel completely overwhelmed, not really sure why, I just feel like crying.

So I will excuse myself, go sit in quiet for a few minutes and cry.

 It feels like a cleansing.

Heart weeps.

Head tries to help heart.

Head tells heart how it is, again:

You will lose the ones you love. They will all go. But even the earth will go, someday.

Heart feels better, then.

But the words of head do not remain long in the ears of heart.

Heart is so new to this.

I want them back, says heart.

Head is all heart has.

Help, head. Help heart.

Every man is the sum total of his reactions to experience. As your experiences differ and multiply, you become a different man, and hence your perspective changes. This goes on and on... So it would seem foolish, would it not, to adjust our lives to the demands of a goal we see from a different angle every day? How could we ever hope to accomplish anything... The answer, then, must not deal with goals at all... We do not strive to be firemen, we do not strive to be bankers, nor policemen, nor doctors. WE STRIVE TO BE OURSELVES. But don’t misunderstand me. I don’t mean that we can’t BE firemen, bankers, or doctors...but that we must make the goal conform to the individual, rather than make the individual conform to the goal... Beware of looking for goals: look for a way of life. Decide how you want to live and then see what you can do to make a living WITHIN that way of life.

zondag 7 juli 2019

My wish is that, one day, formal education will pay attention to the education of the heart, teaching love, compassion, justice, forgiveness, mindfulness, tolerance and peace. We must learn that humanity is one big family. We are all brothers and sisters: physically, mentally and emotionally. But we are still focusing far too much on our differences instead of our commonalities…

Intolerance leads to hatred and division. Our children should grow up with the idea that dialogue, not violence, is the best and most practical way to solve conflicts. But this can become reality only if we educate, not just the brain, but also the heart.”

- Dalai Lama -

Being alive is finding ourselves in the midst of this great and mysterious paradox.
There are ten thousand joys and sorrows in every life, and at one time or another we will be touched by all of them.
We will all experience birth and death, success and loss, love and heartbreak, joy and despair.
And in every moment of your life there are millions of humans just like you all over the world who are being confronted by situations just like yours, some that are joyful and some that are overwhelming where they are struggling to somehow learn how to survive them.
What matters is the spirit you bring to each day.
As George Washington Carver said, “How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong … because some day in life you will have been all of these.
- Jack Kornfield -
