No matter how long you work, it’s always going to end sometime. And there’s always going to be things left undone. And it wouldn’t matter if you lived until you were seventy-five. There would still be new ideas. There would still be things that you wished you would have accomplished. You could work for several lifetimes…

Part of the reason that I’m not having trouble facing the reality of death is that it’s not a limitation, in a way. It could have happened any time, and it is going to happen sometime. If you live your life according to that, death is irrelevant. Everything I’m doing right now is exactly what I want to do.

Verbinden met de ander

kan alleen

als je in verbinding bent met jezelf

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? “Well because someone bumped into me, of course!” Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So we have to ask ourselves… “what’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? You choose! Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation for ourselves; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

Introverts are collectors of thoughts,

and solitude is where the collection is curated and rearranged

to make sense of the present and future.

- Laurie Helgoe -

We are all a people in need.

We are not perfect.

We are not machines.

We make mistakes.

We need grace.

We need compassion

. We need help at times.

We need other people.

And that’s okay.

Remember:

the time you feel lonely

is the time you most need to be by yourself.

Life’s cruelest irony.

Alice Walker talking about her cat Frida, Excerpt from Alice Walker, “The Richness of the Very Ordinary Stuff”: A Conversation with Jody Hoy (1994).

A tree does not announce as it grows.

It just does so quietly.

Gradually.

With serenity.

No one else must know,

as long as the tree itself knows

that it’s getting there.

- Nicole Addison -

The deepest pain I ever felt

was denying my own feelings

to make everyone else comfortable.

- Nicole Lyons -

Immense inner-peace can come

from simply doing everything you do

a bit slower

and more mindfully.

Don't save something for a special occasion.

Every day of your life is a special occasion.

Honesty is always the best way,

every other road

just leads to confusion.

I think I’d like to say only that they should learn to be alone and try to spend as much time as possible by themselves.

I think one of the faults of young people today is that they try to come together around events that are noisy, almost aggressive at times.

This desire to be together in order to not feel alone is an unfortunate symptom, in my opinion.

Every person needs to learn how to spend time with oneself.

That doesn’t mean he should be lonely, but that he shouldn’t grow bored with himself because people who grow bored in their own company seem to me in danger, from a self-esteem point of view.

- Andrei Tarkovsky -

Apply Within..

You once told me
you wanted to find
yourself in the world -
and I told you to
first apply within,
to discover the world
within you…

You once told me
you wanted to save
the world from all its wars -
and I told you
first, save yourself
from the world
and all the wars
you put yourself
through...

- Suzy Kassem -

There is no reality except the one contained within us.

That is why so many people live such an unreal life.

They take the images outside of them for reality

and never allow the world within to assert itself.

- Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf -

the forests

grow back with patience,

not rage

- Tony Hoagland -

Do not hate anybody,

because that hatred which comes out from you must,

in the long run, come back to you.

If you love,

that love will come back to you,

completing the circle.

- Swami Vivekananda -

This is the only poem I can read.

I am the only one who can write it.

I didn’t kill myself when things went wrong.

I didn’t turn to drugs or teaching.

I tried to sleep.

But when I couldn’t sleep,

I learned to write.

I learned to write

what might be read

on nights like this by one like me.

Your thoughts are your reality.

You are the one bringing yourself down.

While it might seem like the world around you is collapsing the thoughts you’re allowing to occur are what really take the most toll on you.

When you cannot change something, accept it.

Move forward as best you can if you really want to change your reality.
