You’re so hard on yourself.

Take a moment.

Sit back.

at the grief that softened you,

at the heartache that made you wiser,

at the suffering that strengthened you.

 Despite everything you still grow.

Be proud of this.

STILNESS DOES NOT COME

FROM BEING FREE OF YOUR TROUBLES

IT COMES

FROM BEING ONE WITH THEM.

Our daily life is marked with internal conflict. Thoughts, emotions or habits we want to be free of or imbibe in ourselves. This conflict is the reason why we can’t be still. We never want to face who we are.
⠀⠀
It is generally associated with trying to feel a certain way, trying to have a clear mind, trying to not remember someone, trying to stop repeating an addictive pattern or trying to be free of fear.
⠀⠀
This ‘trying’ is always a movement away from ‘what is’. It’s a form of self-denial. We don’t want internal conflict yet we create it by moving away from who we are now. We create conflict by denying our present reality because it is painful.
⠀⠀
The deeper truth is that this inward travail is actually the result of our outward reaching. If we embrace what is, as it is, we can move with that which we want to be free of. We can become fear. We can become our addictions. We can become our pain.
⠀⠀
We are one with it. We are it. Then the question of being free of something begins to slowly disappear. There is no thought of trying to change what is, for everything is you. The shadow self is also the real self. In some sense it’s more real than our imagination of who we want to be!
⠀⠀
This is what stillness is. We imagine stillness to be a result of being free of our troubles, but it’s the opposite of it. It’s a result of being profoundly one with them. Which means being non-resistant from moment to moment. Which means living a life of acceptance and surrender as much as possible.

Then we can be still, for nothing is moving or in conflict with who we are. We are everything. When we have this stillness, we are already free. We have already come out of the other end. We have undergone a radical and permanent transformation.

WHAT ARE YOU

MOST GRATEFUL FOR?

7 ways to quiet your mind so you can hear your soul

Are you like me? Looking for answers, for direction, for what will give you meaning, success and happiness in your life? Do you turn to a trusted mentor, follow a podcast, read self-help books or articles online, always searching outside yourself. But what if you already knew what to do? What if the answers were inside you all along?

Harnessing your soul power

The soul within us is all-knowing. Judaism teaches that it is literally a “piece” of God, the loving, intelligent, creative force creating and directing the universe at every moment. We need to nurture our connection to the soul and let it guide us and energize us. The tricky part is tuning into its frequency to hear what it has to say. Because a lot gets in the way – life, the noise within our minds, the ego pulling us away from our essence.

The good news is that with a little practice, you can start to listen, and to notice what that still small voice within sounds like so that you  can harness its enormous power.

#1 Switch off autopilot mode

Listening to the soul starts with awareness, with consciousness, with knowing what you are doing while you are doing it. You can kick start this process with a regular meditation practice. It all begins with sitting in a quiet space, with your eyes closed and gently bringing our attention to your breathing. You will start to hear the stream of thoughts that is always active in your mind. If there are any disruptions, treat it as just like another way to gently bring your attention back to feeling your feet on the ground, your back against the chair.

#2 Stop judging everything

The foundation of meditation is to observe what comes up without judgement. Whatever thought, feeling or image arises, see it without assigning a label or a value judgement. Allow yourself to ‘be’. People are terrified of feelings, but they’re just e-motion…energy in motion –  think of it as energy moving through you that needs to get out. Often we’re like, “Oh, no, no, I can’t feel that, it’s bad and somehow means this, somehow means that. I’m going to be a wreck and I’m so weak” and whatever other judgment. The more you bring a gentle awareness to all of you without any judgment, the more you allow a safe space of presence. Judgments are so constricting. Practice just being. Accepting that whoever you are for this moment is fine, that whatever’s going on, it does not matter, it’s totally okay. This in itself is completely transformative and completely healing.

#3 Cultivate patience

Whatever is happening, look at it with patience. Whatever happens, happens, whatever is… simply is. There’s no rush to get anywhere or experience anything. This approach is radical.

#4 Embrace curiosity

Reclaim the essence of childhood – the ‘Beginner’s Mind’. Think of any adorable little kid that you’re close to and imagine their face when you’re showing them something. That’s the approach you take to yourself. So rather than, “Oh my gosh, I’ve done this before, this is so boring, I didn’t get anything out of it.” Take the approach of Beginner’s Mind. Say to yourself “I have no idea what’s about to happen, I’m just curious. Oh, wow, isn’t that interesting?” If you’re like me, you’re not used to treating yourself that way!

#5 Stop striving

Start accepting. Accept whatever is happening, no right and wrong. Sometimes you’ll have a mind-blowing meditation and sometimes it will be totally distracting and so annoying. But it’s not annoying, because you’re patient, right? That’s the goal.

#6 Let go

Be in the moment. Try to not worry about everything and stop holding on to things. “What am I doing next? I’ve got so much going on tomorrow. Did I mess up today? Did I say that? I shouldn’t have said that to that person.” All that type of holding onto your day… just let it go, for now. You can pick it all up afterwards. You can  carry it all out with you afterwards – but for now, try putting it down on the floor next to you.

#7 Trust yourself

This is huge. Most people say, “I don’t know why I was feeling that way, I don’t know what it was about, let me analyze it.” This part is about accessing your own deeper wisdom and trusting that whatever came up, came up, and that’s fine. You don’t have to second guess. Many people don’t trust themselves, and they give their power away to the wrong people. But even if it’s the right people, no one else can know you better than you.

Tips for Coping with Depression

Depression can often be difficult to fight as it usually drains your energy. And though it can’t be overcome by willpower alone, you still have some control, no matter how you feel. The suggestions below can help you with this.

1. Keep doing the activities you previously enjoyed (even if you don’t enjoy them as much when you’re depressed).

2. Try to build some exercise into your day as it releases endorphins – the body’s feel good hormones.

3. Know what your triggers and your risk factors are. For example, loneliness, stress, disappointment and pain are common triggers and risk factors for depression.

4. Stay in touch with your friends. Often those who are depressed start to isolate themselves – but that leads to loneliness - which can make depression worse.

5. Try to maintain some kind of routine, especially when it comes to getting up, and going to bed. Taking naps in the daytime can cause insomnia and leave you feeling drained, so you have no energy.

6. Try to get a handle on how much you ruminate. Take note of your thought patterns; don’t dwell on negatives. Instead, challenge faulty thinking so it’s much less pessimistic … and try to be thankful … and to look for positives.

7. Make sure you do things that make you feel more relaxed. Often people who’re depressed feel uptight and agitated. So it’s important that you find things that can help you to relax.

8. Resist the temptation to self-medicate (especially through alcohol or substance abuse.) That will lead to greater problem, and will make you feel much worse.

9. Seek out support. Talk to a good friend, or someone that you trust. You’ll usually find there’s someone who genuinely cares.

10. Talk to your doctor. It may be medication is the answer for you so don’t be afraid to try to get professional help.

Creating Meaning

Remember this phrase.

The past does not equal the future.

Because you failed yesterday;

or all day today,

or a moment ago,

or for the last six months;

the last 16 years,

or the last fifty years of life

doesn’t mean anything…

all that matters

is what are you going to do,

right now.

"Depression is a heavy, moth-eaten wool sweater that smells like a wet dog, that you are forced to wear on humid summer days. Depression is a ruthless cold hand slowly squeezing your heart. Depression is the worst roommate you ever had in your 20s, who never cleaned the bathroom, always messed up the microwave with tomato sauce and melted cheese, and loved telling you all that was wrong with her life, sitting too close to you, halitosis wafting, while you were just trying to quietly read a really good book.

I am not trying to sugarcoat it: depression is the worst.

For most of us with some form of depression, we are not wanting to end things, even if sometimes we feel like we might not want to wake up. Yet, if you are prone to depression, it can sometimes be a lifelong companion. No antidepressants ever worked for me, at all, and I have continued to manage by knowing my triggers and knowing what helps keep me above the waves and out of the riptides that could pull me under. Because my dysthymia (moderate depression that is consistent) does feel like a part of my life I may never fully shake, I have done my best to accept it and make the best of it. I have even decided to see benefits in depression because I like to believe that everything can be nourishing if we choose for it to be. Even if this nourishment sometimes tastes like liver and onions washed down with possibly expired milk."

When we are on a path of growth we can be hard on ourself.

We can be critical of our progress.

Growth is a process.

We will stumble while growing.

We make mistakes.

We fall back into old habits and patterns.

What matters is we get up & keep going.

What matters is we forgive ourselves if we don't get it 'right'.

What matters is we live and remain present while growing.

It takes time to unlearn things we've been holding onto for so long.

Self-compassion looks like

- allowing space for dissapointment instead of bypassing my own feelings

- letting myself receive nurtarance and care, even when parts of me want to try to go at it alone

- aligning with my true self when my inner critic tries to take over

- letting myself get it wrong without holding my own imperfection over my head as proof of my not-enoughness

- being willing to practice tenderness with myself in moments when my tendency might be to harden

- offering myself curiosity where it might feel easier to offer punishment

- aknowledging what hurts while also letting myself hold space for everything that doesn't hurt

- not bashing myself when i don't show up exactly how I want to in every given moment.µ

- asking myself what I need during moments of challenge instead of shaming myself for experiencing moments of challenge

- letting messiness mean I'm human instead of letting it mean I'm bad.

I always thought my days spent in darkness as a child gave me a very special sensitivity.

Much later, when I really wanted to hear, really 'see' a song, I'd close my eyes.

And when I wanted to bring it out of the very depths of myself, out of my guts, out of my belly, when the song had to come from far away, I'd close my eyes.

You are not helping someone

if you free them

of their responsability

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO BE YOU!!

That’s what you came HERE for!! But so much of our lives, we try to fit into these boxes that society and others have created for us. And the thing is we just adopted these ways of living without even knowing we were doing so. Or others have made us feel bad about being ourselves, that we follow these lines out of fear and judgement. But these lines are made up. These lines aren’t even real. They are just limitations.

 So you must ask,
🌱Who created these limitations?
🌱Why did they create them?
🌱Who benefits from them?
🌱Who suffers because of them?

We see that this world is undergoing a major change. A shift is happening. I know you can feel it. We are realizing how infinite we truly are, and seeing how these limitations don’t fit us anymore. It can be a challenge to stay true to you when the whole world is telling you to be something different, but we need YOU now. So let the world see you dance. Sing your heart’s song. Create your own reality however you wish to see it. Remember your infinite nature. We can change this world together, but we have to start by staying true to ourselves. And who cares if people judge. That’s a reflection of what’s going on with them, not you.
Be you 💕
