To fear death, gentlemen, is no other than to think oneself wise when
one is not, to think one knows what one does not know.
No one knows whether death may not be the greatest of all blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they knew that it is the greatest of evils.
And surely it is the most blameworthy ignorance to believe that one knows what one does not know.
No one knows whether death may not be the greatest of all blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they knew that it is the greatest of evils.
And surely it is the most blameworthy ignorance to believe that one knows what one does not know.

Some day soon, perhaps in forty years, there will be no one alive who has ever known me. That’s when I will be truly dead - when I exist in no one’s memory. I thought a lot about how someone very old is the last living individual to have known some person or cluster of people. When that person dies, the whole cluster dies, too, vanishes from the living memory.
I wonder who that person will be for me. Whose death will make me truly dead?

Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a
moment that will never be again.
And what do we teach our children? We
teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of
France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to
each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are
unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another
child like you. Your legs, your arms, the way you move. You may become a
Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for
anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm
another who is, like you, a marvel? You must work, we must all work, to
make the world worthy of its children.
