Being accountable for our self-destructive behavior is
definitely not always an easy thing to do, and our egos can
aggressively resist, but when we call ourselves out on our BS it is
actually empowering.
Remember, this is not about the voice that bully’s,
shames and guilts.
It’s the voice within that is honest, saying hard
truths, giving us the nudge/push we need, while rooting for and
encouraging us with love, forgiveness and compassion.
It helps us create
the movement we need and improve our status quo!
This is self-love too.

Instead of trying to avoid, control, and eliminate our feelings,
we have to become attuned to them
so we can hear their message
and make better and healthier choices for ourselves.
Part of accepting yourself NOW is accepting who you were THEN.
Accepting who you were THEN comes from understanding how that version of you made sense based on your experience and circumstances.
All versions, irritations, parts, forms, and pieces of you deserve you own acceptance. Even the ones you hide. Even the messy ones. Even the ones you thought needed to be shamed.
What verions of you are asking for you own acceptance? What parts of you are needing to be embraced? What would it look like to choose to accept every single person you've ever been.
Each
part of our story matters, and finding acceptance in ourselves means
finding acceptance in *all* of who we are, including who we've been. It
is a lifelong practice.
This requires forgiveness, tenderness,
patience, and a realization that being perfect all along (or ever) is
not a requirement for being deeply enough in this moment. We haven't
always known what we know now. We haven't always had the insight and
wisdom we have now. We haven't always had the support we have now. We
haven't always had the perspective or understanding we have now. And
it's okay that we weren't where we are now, then. In fact, we couldn't
have been. We needed the journey to glean the wisdom. We needed the path
to find ourselves where we are today. And, the same will be true 10
years from now.

When
I was a young monk, I wondered why the Buddha kept practicing
mindfulness and meditation even after he had already become a Buddha.
Now I find the answer is plain enough to see.
Happiness is impermanent,
like everything else.
In order for happiness to be extended and renewed,
you have to learn how to feed your happiness.
Nothing can survive
without food, including happiness; your happiness can die if you don’t
know how to nourish it.
If you cut a flower but you don’t put it in some
water, the flower will wilt in a few hours.
Even if happiness is
already manifesting, we have to continue to nourish it.
This is
sometimes called conditioning, and it’s very important.
We can condition
our bodies and minds to happiness with the five practices of letting
go, inviting positive seeds, mindfulness, concentration, and insight.
It means that we are
willing to walk alongside another person in whatever journey they’re on
without judging them, making them feel inadequate, trying to fix them,
or trying to impact the outcome.
When we hold space for other people, we
open our hearts, offer unconditional support, and let go of judgement
and control.

It
may sound harsh to imply that our desire to heal is not enough. It’s
not that our desire isn’t strong enough but that our subconscious mind
is unwittingly caught up changing our past. Our conscious mind knows
that the past is done, but our subconscious mind doesn’t accept any such
thing.
It believes quite strongly that the past can be changed.
And so it applies effort and invests its energies in doing the
impossible. When the conscious mind discovers this, ( for itself,
through meditation and self awareness ) it let’s go of this desire and
real acceptance begins to appear in our lives.
Acceptance of our
past allows our subconscious mind to enter deep states of rest and
recuperation. This is healing. It is not for our lack of effort that we
don’t heal, but the application of too much effort at the subconscious
level.
Find out where the fight is, and let go of the desire to
change the past. You won’t have to practice any presence, but will
suddenly find yourself deep in the middle of its silence.
Imagine
that you had gone all your life without ever washing, and then one day you
decide to take a shower. You start scrubbing away, but then watch in horror as
the dirt begins to ooze out of the pores of your skin and stream down your body.
Something must be wrong: You were supposed to be getting cleaner and all you can
see is grime. You panic and fling yourself out of the shower, convinced that you
should never have begun. But you only end up even more dirty than before. You
have no way of knowing that the wisest thing to do is to be patient and to
finish the shower. It may look for a while as if you are getting even dirtier,
but if you keep on washing, you will emerge fresh and clean. It’s all a
process, the process of purification.
Whenever
doubt arises, see it simply as an obstacle, recognize it as an understanding
that is calling out to be clarified or unblocked, and know that it is not a
fundamental problem but simply a stage in the process of purification and
learning. Allow the process to continue and complete itself, and never lose your
trust or resolve. This is the way followed by all the great practitioners of the
past, who used to say: “There is no armor like
perseverance.”

“Your children are not your children.
~
They are sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you.
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
~

Some things in life are unfixable, no matter
how hard we may wish or try.
And not all things are even meant to be
fixed, at least not in the ways we may first have imagined.
If you’re
thinking, “but shouldn’t we not carry it and let it go?”
Some things
will take time, others stay with us, and then there are things that come
undone so that they can come together in an entirely different and
better way.

We strijden voortdurend
We
We
-Alejandro Dumas-
Kracht ligt in kwetsbaarheid

Don’t
we know, only too well, that protection from pain doesn’t work, and that
when we try to defend ourselves from suffering, we only suffer more and
don’t learn what we can from the experience?
As Rilke wrote, the protected
heart that is “never exposed to loss, innocent and secure, cannot know
tenderness; only the won-back heart can ever be satisfied: free, through all it
has given up, to rejoice in its mastery.”
The
root of all phenomena is your
mind. If
unexamined, it rushes after experiences,
ingenious in the games of
deception. If
you look right into it, it is free of any ground or
origin, In
essence free of any coming, staying or going.
Just because I post something doesn’t mean I’m going through it. I might just like the quotes.
My posts are not directed to anybody but myself, but if the shoe fits, wear it.
