R.I.P. BRUNO GANZ

The most important thing in all human relationships is conversation, but people don’t talk anymore, they don’t sit down to talk and listen.
They go to the theater, the cinema, watch television, listen to the radio, read books, but they almost never talk.
If we want to change the world, we have to go back to a time when warriors would gather around a fire and tell stories.

Vertrouw me maar.

I've become skeptical of the unwritten rule

a romance must ensue.

 Rather,

I want to portray a slightly different relationship,

one where the two mutually inspire each other to live

- if I'm able to,

then perhaps I'll be closer to portraying

 a true expression of love.

My whole life I’ve been telling myself, ‘don’t be afraid’.

And it is only now that I’m realizing how stupid that is.

Don’t be afraid.

Like saying, ‘don’t move out of the way when someone tries to punch you’ or ‘don’t flinch at the heat of fire’ or ‘don’t blink’.

 Don’t be human.

I’m afraid and you’re afraid and we’re all always going to be afraid, because that’s the point.

What I should be telling myself is 'be afraid, but do it anyway’.

Live anyway.

Almost anybody can learn to think or believe or know, but not a single human being can be taught to feel.

 Why?

Because whenever you think or you believe or you know, you’re a lot of other people: but the moment you feel, you’re nobody-but-yourself.

To be nobody-but-yourself...in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else...means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

If life doesn’t turn out exactly as you planned - don’t be surprised.
Life is the great unknown. Even though we plan and scheme and make millions of assumptions about the future, the truth is that we don’t know what can happen in the next moment, let alone the next five weeks, months or years. So don’t be surprised when things don’t go according to your ideas, just relax and remember, life isn’t personal, it’s just life. Be open to the ever changing conditions and flow with them. Don’t get stuck. The moment you feel free to respond fully and freely to life, you are already more powerful than can know.

That is part of the beauty of all literature.

You discover that your longings are universal longings,

that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone.

 You belong.

- F. Scott Fitzgerald -

The wise person, does really not look to change anything. They become quiet. They have patience. They work on themselves. They watch their thoughts, watch their actions and observe themselves getting angry, observe themselves getting depressed, observe themselves getting jealous and envious and the rest of it.

Little by little they realize,”That’s not me. That’s hypnosis, that’s a lie.”

They do not react to their condition. To the extent that they do not react to their condition, to that extent do they become free. They no longer care what anybody else is doing. They compare themselves with no one. They compete with no one. They simply watch themselves. They observe themselves.

They see the mental confusion. They don’t run around shouting, “I am absolute reality. I am God. I am consciousness.” Rather, they see where they’re coming from and they leave everyone else alone.

Such a being unfolds at a fast rate. It makes no difference what predicament such a being is in. It doesn’t matter, for such a being is already free. When the mind rests in the heart, that means when the mind does not go out any longer and identify with the world, when the mind rests in the heart there is peace, there is harmony, there is pure being.

When you allow your mind to go out of your Self it begins to compare, it begins to judge, it begins to feel offended, and there is no peace. There’s no rest.

Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it.

 I loved it.

I answer all my children’s letters...

I sent him a card and I drew a picture...

I wrote, 'Dear Jim: I loved your card.'

Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, 'Jim loved your card so much he ate it.'

That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received.

He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.

Young@Heart "Fix You"

To live deliberately on the edges of things, in active resistance to a world that places all its value on speed and productivity…
It is a reminder that more than ever we need people willing to pause and listen, to open their hearts to what is uncomfortable, and to hold space and attention until the new thing emerges...
Perhaps…if we keep practicing…we will hear whispers of a new beginning.
