We often think the only way to create happiness
is to try to control the outer circumstances of our lives,
to try to fix what seems wrong or
to get rid of everything that bothers us.
But the real problem lies in
our reaction to those circumstances.
What we have to change is the mind
and the way it experiences reality.

Breathe, but with total awareness of the act. Conscious breathing is one
of the simplest meditations that can be used to bring us into the
present moment; it can be used to alleviate feelings of anxiety, or to
bring oneself out of depression. In the present moment, with only
awareness of one’s breathing - deep breaths or shallow breaths, it
matters not, so long as we are totally aware of each one - there is no
past, no future: no depression, no anxiety.
Try it. Breathe.

Imagine you are walking in the woods and you see a small dog sitting by a tree. As you approach it, it suddenly lunges at you, teeth bared. You are frightened and angry. But then you notice that one of its legs is caught in a trap. Immediately your mood shifts from anger to concern: You see that the dog’s aggression is coming from a place of vulnerability and pain.
This applies to all of us. When we behave in hurtful ways, it is because we are caught in some kind of trap. The more we look through the eyes of wisdom at ourselves and one another, the more we cultivate a compassionate heart.-Tara Brach -
Opinion is really the lowest form of human knowledge. It requires no accountability, no understanding.
The highest form of knowledge… is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another’s world. It requires profound purpose larger than the self kind of understanding.”

Imagine craving absolutely nothing from the world. Imagine cutting the invisible strings that so painfully bind us: what would that be like?
Imagine the freedoms that come from the ability to enjoy things without having to acquire them, own them, possess them.
Try to envision a relationship based on acceptance and genuine care rather than expectation.
Imagine feeling completely satisfied and content with your life just as it is. Who wouldn’t want this?
This is the enjoyment of non-attachment.

Be careful.
The moment you start talking you create a verbal universe, a
universe of words, ideas, concepts and abstractions, interwoven and
inter-dependent, most wonderfully generating, supporting and explaining
each other and yet all without essence or substance, mere creations of
the mind.
Words create words, reality is silent.

No matter how careful you are, there’s going to be the sense you missed
something, the collapsed feeling under your skin that you didn’t
experience it all. There’s that fallen heart feeling that you rushed
right through the moments where you should’ve been paying attention.
Well, get used to that feeling. That’s how your whole life will feel
some day. This is all practice.
