Who Am I?

Who am I to spout about life, love, happiness?

About whether all’s right with the world, or whether it’s just a vale of tears...

I think it’s unbelievable, fabulous, this life of ours…everything, the birds and the bees, the deer and the antelope, the spacious skies, the foggy dew, the rockabye babies…

My wife’s embrace, a landing on the moon, space, time, eternity.

I don’t understand one damn thing about any of it, except that it’s enough to keep me in a constant delirium of delight, surprise, enthusiasm, despair, enough to keep me roaming, stumbling, faltering, cursing, adoring, hating the destruction, the violence in myself and others.

How do you let go of attachments to things?

 Don’t even try.

 It’s impossible.

Attachment to things drops away by itself

when you no longer seek to find yourself in them.

In It Together

Giving our children the freedom to define

 their own version of success,

instead of what society considers "successful,"

is one of the most empowering gifts

we can give the next generation.

As long as we know in our hearts

what Christmas ought to be,

 Christmas is.

 Valériane LeBlond

Every so often, stop all that doing for a bit.

There is presence in this moment

and no worries about the future.

There is peace, contentment, warmth, and happiness,

just here,

just as you are.

 Empathy has no script.

There is no right way or wrong way to do it.

It's simply listening,

holding space,

withholding judgment,

emotionally connecting,

and communicating that incredibly healing message of

'you are not alone.'

The real difficulty

 is to overcome

 how you think about yourself.

You aren’t treating yourself with love and respect

when you internalize others’ dissatisfaction

and take it on

 as your own problem.

- Ilene S. Cohen -

Denying our emotions is an insult

to the journey of what it means

 to be a human being,

and it does nothing

to help people feel better.

Dat leidt me af. Zelf had ik me nooit eenzaam gevoeld.

Make the choices that best provide what you need,

and most deeply affirm who you are —

those that bring strength to your soul,

balance to your life, …

and life to your dreams.

Don't search for the answers,

which could not be given to you now,

because you would not be able to live them...

the point is, to live everything.

Live the questions now.

Perhaps then, someday far in the future,

you will gradually,

without even noticing it,

live your way into the answer.

- Rainer Maria Rilke -

You do not need to always conceptualize,

 interpret,

or label everything

that comes into your awareness.

Do you do any sports?

Yes, I run away from my feelings...

You cannot make your life move faster than it's moving.

No matter how urgent your situation may seem to be,

things are going to happen when they happen,

not a minute sooner.

Be patient with yourself.

Be patient with others.

Be patient with life.

Patience always pays off.

- Iyanla Vanzant -

Love is Essential

Millions of people have decided not to be sensitive.

They have grown thick skins around themselves

just to avoid being hurt by anybody.

But it is at great cost.

 Nobody can hurt them,

but nobody can make them happy either.

- Osho -

We never see other people anyway,

only the monsters we make of them.

- Colson Whitehead -

Imagination should be used,

not to escape reality

but to create it.

Do you know what I was, how I lived? You know
what despair is; then
winter should have meaning for you.

I did not expect to survive,
earth suppressing me. I didn't expect
to waken again, to feel
in damp earth my body
able to respond again, remembering
after so long how to open again
in the cold light
of earliest spring--

afraid, yes, but among you again
crying yes risk joy

in the raw wind of the new world.
