If you want a chicken to be a duck,

and a duck to be a chicken,

 you will suffer.

One day some people came to the master and asked:

How can you be happy in a world of such impermanence, where you cannot protect your loved ones from harm, illness or death?

The master held up a glass and said:

Someone gave me this glass; It holds my water admirably and it glistens in the sunlight. I touch it and it rings! One day the wind may blow it off the shelf, or my elbow may knock it from the table. I know this glass is already broken, so I enjoy it - incredibly.

JA!

Things are simply the way they are.

They don't give us suffering.

Like a thorn: Does a sharp thorn give us suffering?

No. It's simply a thorn. It doesn't give suffering to anybody.

If we step on it, we suffer immediately.

Why do we suffer?

 Because we stepped on it.

So the suffering comes from us.

Anything which is troubling you,

 anything which is irritating you,

 THAT is your teacher.

This is the paradox.

The more you try to control people the less power of influence you have over them.

The moment you love them for who they are and be who you are, is when you are at your most influential state.

The thing is, it has to be genuine it cannot be manufactured.

Love yourself as much

The secret of life is...

everything is out of control.

Complaining is finding faults,

wisdom is finding solutions.

Don’t give them a taste of their own medicine.
They already know what it tastes like.
Give them a taste of your own medicine.
If they lied, let your medicine be honesty.
If they played with your emotions,
let your medicine be maturity.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself,
even if it means removing yourself
from lives that you want to be in.
You are, no doubt,
worthy of being valued for who you are.
So be who you are.

Love isn’t only love, sweetheart.

It’s hard work, and trust, and tears, with even a few glimpses of devastation.

But at the end of each day, if you can still look at the person at your side and can’t imagine anyone else you’d rather have there, the pain, the heartache and the ups and downs of love are worth it.

Grace is what matters, in anything...

That’s a quality I admire quite greatly.

It keeps you from reaching for the gun too quickly, keeps you from destroying things too foolishly.

It keeps you alive and it keeps you open for more understanding.
