Jules Deelder (1944-2019) – Voor Ari

Voor Ari

Lieve Ari
Wees niet bang
De wereld is rond
en dat istie al lang
De mensen zijn goed
De mensen zijn slecht
Maar ze gaan allen
dezelfde weg
Hoe langer je leeft
hoe korter het duurt
Je komt uit het water
en gaat door het vuur
Daarom lieve Ari

As several teachers of mindfulness have said, “Thoughts aren’t facts.”

 And thoughts aren’t acts.

They’re just thoughts, part of the passing mental landscape.

Thoughts moving through your mind are like clouds moving across the sky.

They are not the sky, and the sky remains unchanged by them.

The way to be with them is just to watch them go by.

That’s not generally how we experience our thoughts, but that’s what you’re working toward.

May we know our stories matter, all of them, every single one.

May we find ways to use our voices or to honour our choice to not speak.

May we know we don't need to have it all figured out and embrace imperfection.

May we hold ourselves with compassion and grace and gentleness and care.

May we know we are not alone and may we feel deeply connected to others.

May we come together in our similarities and celebrate our differences.

May we honour our own contradictions and live into our human complexity.

May we know it is possible (and human) to break and to still be whole.

May we remember our inherent worth as human and know that those who hurt or abused or dehumanized us do not define us.

May we forgive ourselves for the shame that was never ours to carry.

May we strive for collective liberation and true community care.

May we continously work through our internalized oppressive conditioning and hold ourselves and each other accountable to doing less harm.

May we keep ourselves open to learning and unlearning and relearning.

May we honour boundaries and consent, both our own and each other's.

May we meet each other in companionship and compassion.

May we find spaces to land where we are fully seen and heard and believed.

May we be this landing space for others, while also tending to our own needs.

May we allow ourselves to slow down, to connect to our bodies and all our complex parts; learning to listen and to know and to trust ourselves.

May we express our wants and needs, knowing they don't make us burdens.

May we name ourselves for ourselves, continuously (re)discovering who we are.

May we reclaim our belonging to our own self, and also find it with others.

May we hold ourselves fully through our griefs and traumas and pains.

May we take one moment at a time and trust in our own non-linear processes.

May we find ways to dream into possibility (and know it is okay if we can't).

May we remember tomorrow is another day.

May tomorrow be another day.

For last year's words belong to last year's language,

And next year's words await another voice,

And to make an end is to make a beginning.

- T.S. Eliot - Four Quartets -

I believe that we, this planet, hasn't seen its golden age.

Everybody says it's finished...

art's finished, rock and roll is dead...

fuck that!

This is my chance in the world.

I didn't live back there in Mesopotamia.

I wasn't there in the Garden of Eden.

I wasn't there with Emperor Han.

I'm here right now and I want now to be the golden age...

If only every generation would realize

that the time for greatness is right now when they're alive...

the time to flower is now.

Bedankt Frieda

There will always be an infinity of things to do.

We can never get our life or our business or our kitchen running exactly the way we want it to run. No matter how we envision it, it can’t be that way.

Life is not predetermined to the point that we can get to some stage and then see how it all works.

What happens is that we have a better and better understanding of things, we have more and more clarity and ability to deal with things as they arise. But they keep arising, endlessly.

The empty sky is always creating new clouds.

Hoop draagt een pak van veren,

zit in de ziel

en zingt onvermoeibaar

een deuntje zonder woorden;

maar in de storm

is zijn gezang het zachtst.

- Emily Dickinson -

- Elin Manon -

The most beautiful gift of this wintertime

is ultimately something that is unspeakable;

 it is only livable.

The winter is actually begging you

to just let go, and then let go of letting go.

Let this natural and spontaneous returning

to the root of your own existence happen.

Return to that which is not definable.
