DAGGEDICHT - Yehuda Amichai (1924-2000)
Mijn vader

The more often you listen to your discriminating awareness, the more easily you will be able to change your negative moods yourself, see through them, and even laugh at them for the absurd dramas and ridiculous illusions that they are.
Gradually you will find yourself able to free yourself more and more quickly from the dark emotions that have ruled your life, and this ability to do so is the greatest miracle of all.
The Tibetan mystic, Tertön Sogyal, said that he was not really impressed by someone who could turn the floor into the ceiling or fire into water. A real miracle, he said, was if someone could liberate just one negative emotion.

Like
a child at the cinema, we get caught up in the illusion.
From this
comes all of our vanity, ambition, and insecurity.
We fall in love with
the illusions we have created and develop excessive pride in our
appearance, our possessions, and our accomplishments.
It’s like wearing a
mask and proudly thinking that the mask is really you.

The Buddha said, “you do not learn to give.”
So the poor man said, “If I’m not having anything?”
Buddha said: “You have a few things,
The Face, which can give a smile;
Mouth, you can praise or comfort others;
The Heart, it can open up to others;
Eyes, who can look the other with the eyes of goodness;
Body, which can be used to help others.”
So, actually, we are not poor at all, poverty of spirit is the real poverty.
