 Wealth

 is the number of things

one can do without.

 Change is never painful,

only the resistance to change

 is painful.

The root of suffering

is attachment

 Pain teaches us

what matters.

 A truth heard by you

 ceases to be a truth

when you merely repeat it.

It will be a truth to you

 only when you,

 for yourself,

have discovered it to be true.

You don’t always need a plan.

Sometimes you just need to breathe,

 trust,

 let go,

 and see what happens.

Waiting for the storm to come...

Not my best year

but I've learnt a lot

You can remove a lot of anger in your life by not taking things personally.

Most of the time, it is not about you, it is about them.

Their fears, their pain, their insecurities.

What if parenting became less about telling our children who they should be and more about asking them again and again forever who they already are?

Then, when they tell us, we would celebrate instead of concede.

It’s not: I love you no matter which of my expectations you meet or don’t meet.

It’s: My only expectation is that you become yourself.

The more deeply I know you, the more beautiful you become to me.

As is steen

Ik ben de wereld
zowat overal
te lijf gegaan,
en als het nacht was
dacht ik: morgen
ga ik weer.
Pas als ik sterf
leg ik me erbij neer
dat ik bij leven
hard als steen lijk,
maar vergankelijk
ben als gras,
en dat mijn vuist,
net als mijn vloek,
niet meer is dan
een handvol as.

 I Heard a Bird Sing

 I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.

"We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,”
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

by Oliver Herford

It is important to reflect calmly,

 again and again,

that death is real and comes without warning.

Don’t be like the pigeon in the Tibetan proverb:

He spends all night fussing about, making his bed,

 and dawn comes up

before he has even had time to go to sleep.
