A lot of times people ask what kind of advice you would give to a younger version of yourself. Perhaps - don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself, don’t worry about the future, or don’t eat that entire tub of cookie dough before bedtime. But on the other hand, what do you think your younger self would tell the current version of yourself? Would it be good?
There’s no way to ever know for sure, but what we can do is take steps to make us more confident that the answer would be yes. the thing is, unless the invention of a time machine is on the rise, we’re not going to literally be able to be the person we needed when we were younger. So why did we have to go through those hardships that made us need people in the first place?
There’s plenty of people out there younger than us - now that we’ve lived through difficulties in life, we can be the person that they need. In addition to being that person that the younger you wishes they could have talked to, maybe we can all find someone else who needs us, too.
It’s true that we can’t know the mistakes we’ve made until we’ve made them, so the younger version of ourselves and current version might disagree a little - everyone can learn from each other. Sometimes we need someone to be there, someone who listens and sets the right example - be somebody that you look up to.
